I literally laughed out loud at this - often. OK, more like giggled in disbelief.
However, I wonder how much of their confusion is due to their being men and how much due to their being non-specialists. Like, sure, I know a lot of women who know a lot of information about a lot of methods, but it's probably a really skewed sample because of the people I work/chill with! And we know that teenaged girls aren't that much more knowledgeable than boys. So, do women get their facts straight eventually by necessity, and leave behind the men who are "leaving [birth control] up to her"? Or do you have to be in the sex ed / etc biz to be comfortable fielding questions like these?
wow. i mean. wow. i'm not sure what to be most dismayed about. the utter lack of accessible knowledge or the discomfort of having to actually discuss the topic.
This is not a debate forum -- there are hundreds of other sites for that. This is a safe space for abortion care providers and one that respects the full spectrum of reproductive choices; comments that are not in that spirit will either wind up in the spam filter or languish in the moderation queue.
PS, I really love The Sexist. I still read it even though I don't live in DC these days. Amanda Hess just rules.

OMG the comments on the youtube page, SO OFFENSIVE
ReplyDeleteThis morning I counseled a couple regarding birth control options and the woman asked about birth control for men and the man laughed out loud...
ReplyDeleteSad thing is I bet a number of women would be equally as clueless. I can think of a bunch I know personally just off the top of my head.
