Yeah, the headline doesn't even do the WTF justice. Woman would probably die, pregnancy was probably doomed, what else would the church have recommended? Turns out they would've preferred to see both die, according to an official-sounding anti-choicer who commented over at abortiongang: http://abortiongang.org/2010/05/excommunication-in-the-face-of-choice/comment-page-1/#comment-632
This is not a debate forum -- there are hundreds of other sites for that. This is a safe space for abortion care providers and one that respects the full spectrum of reproductive choices; comments that are not in that spirit will either wind up in the spam filter or languish in the moderation queue.

ReplyDeleteYeah, sexually abusing the children is fine, but no abortions...makes my head swim.
ReplyDeleteInteresting follow-up: the Archdiocese was wrong. http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2010/05/20/diocese-phoenix-maligns-catholic-errs-canon
ReplyDelete" The official church position would mandate that the correct solution would be to let both the mother and the child die."
ReplyDeleteThat "information" is incorrect! The church will allow an abortion to save the life of the mother if both will die if the pregnancy continues.
She needs to see her bishop's superior! Olmstead is dead wrong.
