Lets go to the movies (and have an abortion...or not have an abortion)
Busy day here in abortion land so I am re-posting from a fellow kick a$$ vegan feminist blogger who goes by the name of Opinioness of the World. I subscribe to her posts and you should too! Check out her review of Abortion in cinema: HERE
Hi, I saw this awesome comedy video that's on the front page of FunnyOrDie today that is a satire on the war on women--hilarious! (it's a faux ad for a new board game called The Game of Pro-Life :)
Would love to see it really get out there, so am sending to some bloggers who I read regularly, including you!
My biggest recent beef with abortion and how it's portrayed in the media was on The Walking Dead.
Lori tried to terminate a pregnancy by taking 3 packets of Plan B, she immediately threw them up (it's a common side effect, nausea and vomiting) and decided to keep the pregnancy.
Let's not go into how Plan B couldn't disrupt a pregnancy but my beef with the plot line, writers and character development was that could have been a pivotal, teaching moment for Americans - if Lori had decided to terminate the pregnancy, had gotten Misoprostol, used it properly (without complication) and had conviction about her decision; it could have shown America that a women should have control over her body and make her own decisions about it (especially when hordes of zombies are around).
Instead the Plan B is thrown in her face (literally) with someone screaming, "And here's your abortion pills!" Way to mis-educate America about Emergency contraception! It was a golden opportunity to teach millions of Americans and it was poorly mishandled by the writers and so sensationalized - it made me sick!
I walked around for days grumbling about it until my husband, took my hand and told me that if hordes of zombies ever walked the earth, we'd find a way to have an abortion. LOL, he knew just what to say to his sci-fi, survivalist, nerd lady who was PMSing.
Okay I'm done ranting about a TV show nobody else probably watches. Btw, this was a great post and link!
This is not a debate forum -- there are hundreds of other sites for that. This is a safe space for abortion care providers and one that respects the full spectrum of reproductive choices; comments that are not in that spirit will either wind up in the spam filter or languish in the moderation queue.
